Repo Man (1984)

While the life of a repo man may be intense, it’s also hilarious.

A suburban punk stumbles his way into a job. Soon, he is snatching cars and learning the ins and outs of his new profession. All the while, other repo men, a government agent with a metal hand, scientists, and the people of the United Fruitcake Outlet, chase a glowing Chevy Malibu.

Repo Man makes it clear right from the opening (with its galloping track by Iggy Pop) just how different it is. It takes the punk rock aesthetic and runs with it. Along the way, it mocks consumerism, older generations, and even itself. Admittedly, it may take a few viewing to appreciate it fully. Still, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better candidate for your next TV party.

Just whatever you do, don’t look in the trunk!
