Walla-walla hoo! What at first appears to be a quirky parody of camp flicks, quickly swerves into a tree of bizarre ridiculousness.
At Camp Firewood, the kids are disposable, the counselors are horny, and the wisest amount them is a talking can of vegetables. The last day of camp is here, and everyone has one final shot at true love, getting laid, putting on a show, or averting disaster via fallen space debris.
The cast of Wet Hot American Summer is a comedic dream team. That said, part of the charm is that it came out before they hit it big, back when they were a bunch of no-names trying to make each other laugh. It’s clear how much fun they had while filming, and we (the audience) can’t help but be caught up in it too. However, the real star is director David Wain and his utterly unique tone and style. His BBQ slathered brand of comedy is too weird for most tastes, but we cultists can’t help but to go back for more. Walla-walla hey!
